Rubén Morales: "We have achieved our goal, we are known in the country!"

As we approach the end of 2021, the last days of the year naturally leave us with nothing to do but look back on the year behind us. Our first interviewee is Rubén Morales, our Technical Director, with whom we talked mainly about the challenges of the coronavirus epidemic, the successes we have had and the challenges ahead.

KATTINTS IDE A MAGYAR VERZIÓÉRT!

– It was a really tough beginning of the year because of the covid situation. What were our main goals for 2021?
– It is true that we have not had the most desired start due to this pandemic that has affected us a lot. These lived experiences have made us more realistic and flexible. Being aware that at any moment everything that we had planned could change completely, being prepared to have a plan B always ready. As for this year that is about to end, our main and generic objective was to show the country who we were and what we were doing. Putting our academy in a privileged position. This was reflected very well during the First Edition of the BA Hungary. And we can say that we have succeeded, making our academy known and respected.

– In which areas did covid make our plans harder this year? What plans were needed to cancel because of the virus?
– We could say that each of our areas have been directly or indirectly affected by Covid. It was something that came without asking and, worst of all, without prior information. In my opinion, we have reacted very well, trying to be pro-active and to use our creativity to keep our families connected. We also must thank you for them support during this pandemic year, since without the help and patience of our families we could not say that we are in the position we are in today. It has been a year, in which we could not think beyond a few months, since in a week everything could change. We have had many families that for economic reasons due to Covid have had to leave us, also players and members of the academy infected by the virus, teams in quarantine, we have adapted internal protocols, numerous regional, national and international activities have also had to be cancelled for this very matter. In the end, like everyone else, we have been greatly affected, but it must be said that this entire BA Hungary family has shown great validity to face each of these situations. we have lived.

– Looking at the growth of the academy regarding the number of the players, how satisfied are you? For FC Barcelona development is a keyword. We are not just improving our players but our coaches as well. How important is that, how did it go this year?
– It is a difficult aspect to analyze, since as I have commented previously, this pandemic has greatly affected our families and therefore us as well. The most important thing is to say that we have reached a point where we feel that there is a stability in terms of the number of players. We have had many additions this summer and during this first semester. As for technical growth, as I stated when I arrived in the country, this is a long-term project. Our methodology is based on the growth of the player through experiences playing. soccer. That is, it takes many years for players to practice and play while they are learning. Obviously, we have several aspects that are showing us the dynamics of this growth. We can say that after two seasons, it is having positive growth. Having teams competing very well, even being better, than historical academies in the country. Also during this year we have promoted that more than 25 players will promote our stage teams. Ultimately, growth is evidence at a technical and strategic level.

– At the beginning of the summer we could organize the I. Barca Academy Cup. How do you look back at it?
– This definitely marked a before and after. It was the perfect moment to make ourselves known in the world of Hungarian football. The organization of an event of this magnitude is only available to the best, and we were there. Not only do I think it was a great tournament, but we can say that one of the great tournaments that can be found in this country at a youth level. Feedback from the media, SSMM, top-level academies, families and players was excellent. And that has helped us to position ourselves well in the country.

– There were a lot of other events this year, tryouts, camps, days for specific age groups or positions (e. g. Goalkeepers day). What do you think about these?
– This is the way we work in the academy, always active thinking about what we can offer. We are not satisfied with what we have, we always want to look for a new activity that gives one more opportunity to our players or others outside of this, to play BARÇA. We have introduced the Development Programs, Try out, Gk's, Pre-Academy's day. We are also working hard to realize the possibility of creating, for the new year, a feminine team. We are excited to grow and thanks to our motivation and creativity we will surely do so.

– There was a sharp shift in our marketing from the autumn, which included social media and a development in internal communication. How did it help the academy?
– At the end, in my opinion, the exchange of information is one of the most important aspects for a project to be successful. We have bet big on how to show ourselves to the world and to our families. Honestly it is working a lot and there are the number of followers and feedback that we receive daily. Obviously, there are still many things to improve and that is why we are working so that our families have the best tools and communication facilities. We will have surprises for next year.

– How do you see the academy's position in Hungary?
– Do not forget that BA Hungary is only 2 years old. Currently, as head of the technical area, we can affirm that we have a very privileged position. Players who started with us in 2019 and without having previous experiences playing soccer, are now in our stage teams and many of them called by elite academies of the country. That significant something good we are doing. We have played against many teams during this year and the information gathered is that we are at a level very close to the maximum. With only a few years of life here in the country, we can be very happy, but we have a lot of room and we can continue to grow more. Ambition in one of our values as a club.

– In short, how would you describe 2021?
–  Stable year within instability. Our growth has been key to the positioning of the academy. After the storm we have seen that the calm arrived and all the lessons of the previous years have been reflected in 2021.

– How and where do you spend Christmas and New Year's Eve?
– They are days to be with the family and disconnect to be able to connect in the best way from January. I will be enjoying Christmas in Switzerland with part of my family and the rest, New Years, I will be in Barcelona with my parents and the rest of the family.

– What are the most important goals for 2022? For you personally and for the academy as well.
– As for the personal, keep growing and learning. Take advantage of each of the opportunities that I am finding in this wonderful country and that make me expand my knowledge. I love living outside and learning from each of the situations that I find myself in front of. Enjoying the family, my loved ones, despite the distance, and every moment. On a professional level, we continue with this dynamic of positive growth, optimizing our services to provide a series of opportunities that are increasingly closer to excellence. Also one of the objectives that could be both personal and professional, would be the creation of a team of girls in our BA Hungary.
